Presentation of Krško

The municipality of Krško is located in the lower valley of Sava river, near the place where Sava enters Croatia. Krško is probably most known for the nuclear power plant built there, which is the only one in former Yugoslavia, and presumably the energy mentioned below on should refer to it.

Municipal flag of Krško

The flag of Krško is prescribed by succesive Decisions:

- Odlok o znaku in zastavi Občine Krško, adopted on 30 June 1981 and published on 16 July 1981 in the local official gazette Skuposinski dolenjski list, 21/1981;
- Odlok o znaku in zastavi Občine Krško and Odlok o izobesanju in uporabi zastav v Občini Krško, both adopted on 27 October 1983 and published on 8 December 1983 in Skuposinski dolenjski list, 21/1983;
- Odlok o spremembah in dopolnitvah odloka o izobesanju in uporabi zastav v občini Krško, adopted on 17 March 1987 and published on 4 April 1987 in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 14/1987;
- Odlok o spremembah in dopolnitvah odloka o znaku in zastavi Občine Krško, adopted on 20 May 2004 and published on 21 June 2004 in Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 68/2004 - amending the rules of use of the municipal symbols;
- Odlok o spremembi Odloka o znaku in zastavi Občine Krško, adopted on 24 November 2008 and published on 9 December 2008 in Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 116/2008 - expressing the fee for misuse of the symbols in Euro.

The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:1 (vertical), green with the emblem placed near the bottom. Details of the size and position of the emblem are not given in the Decisions, but are left for a further Decision. Such a Decision seems not to have been adopted yet, therefore the 1981 and subsequent regulations should be followed.

The emblem is picturing the river Sava flowing from the hilly region into the ravines of Krško fields. It also represents energy. Below the emblem, as a part of it, is written the name of the municipality.
The emblem was designed by Judita Skalar

According to Zalokar [zal90], the flag was used before the 1990s in slightly different colours: a pale green field with a dark green emblem.
