Presentation of Straža

The municipality of Straža (c. 3,600 inhabitants) was formed in 2006 by secession from Novo mesto.

The flag and arms of Straža are prescribed by Decision Odlok o grbu in zastavi Občine Straža, adopted on 29 November 2007 and published on 14 January 2008 in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 4/2008.

The flag is described in the Decision as follows:

A rectangular flag in proportions 1:2, with the first half being white and the second half being horizontally divided into green and blue. Over the last two fields is set the yellow charge from the coat of arms (half saw half mill wheel) the diameter of which is equal to the width of the flag.

A question may be asked about the field within the centre of the charge - since it is left all blue in the coat of arms, I have done the same in the flag, although following the description literally, it would seem that it should be divided green-blue - or at least nothing is said about that detail.

The vertical flag is also described, having the second field properly rotated so that the green field comes above the blue one.

The coat of arms is in a semi-circular shield - named in the Decision "Spanish shield" - of proportions of width to height of 5:6. The shield has a white background with a blue slanted base and a green flank being a circular segment. In the middle of the line separating the green and blue fields, a yellow charge is set. The charge consists of half a saw blade and half a mill wheel divided along the same line separating the green and blue fields. The shield is outlined with a black line, and with a white border outlined in black.
