TSKGV (website) was established by Law No. 3,388 enacted on 17 June 1987 as the merger of the Land, Naval and Air Force Support Foundations, originally established in 1974 to counter the arms embargo imposed to Turkey after the invasion of Cyprus.<+P>

Turkish Armed Forces Mehmetçik Foundation

The Mehmetçik Foundation (website) was established on 17 May 1982 to provide social and economical support to veterans and handicapped members of the Turkish Armed Forces, and to the relatives of soldiers killed in action.
Mehmetçik (Little Mehmet) is the generic nickname given to the Turkish soldiers. The eponymous Mehmetçik is generally believed to be Bigalı Mehmet Çavuş (Sergeant Mehmet of Biga; 1878-1964; biography), who heroically defended the Seddülbahir Fort on 4 March 1915 during the Gallipoli Campaign.

OYAK (website) is the mutual aid and pension fund of the members of the Turkish Armed Forces, which was established by the Law No. 205 on 1 March 1961. Under the administration of OYAK, there are civil servants and active soldiers.
OYAK was established with an initial membership of approximately 65,000 permanent members in order to provide additional social security against the social and physical risks that its members may face. It participates in a wide variety of economic activities from iron-steel to chemistry, cement production to energy and automotive sector. Group is also active in the services sector from construction to logistics, tourism to security. It also has presence in banking, consumer financing and brokerage transactions in capital markets through the companies in Turkey and at abroad which it has participated to.

OYAK member companies are Erdemir, Isdemir, Adana Çimento, Bolu Çimento, Aslan Çimento, Ünye Çimento, Mardin Çimento, Hektaş Tic. T.A.Ş, an d OYAK Yatırım Ortaklığı. OYAK international business partners are OYAK Renault Otomobil Fabrikaları A.Ş., Mais Motorlu Araçlar İmal ve Satış A.Ş., ORFİN Finansman A.Ş., ORF Kiralama Pazarlama ve Pazarlama Danışmanlığı A..Ş., İskenderun Enerji Üretim ve Ticaret A.Ş., İsdemir Linde Gaz Ortaklığı A.Ş., MicroMedicine Inc., OYAK NYK Ro-Ro Liman İşletmeleri A.Ş., OYAK Çimento A.Ş., and Miilux OY.
Its OYAK Holding investment subsidiary is one of the largest industrial groups in Turkey. It is the former owner of Oyak Bank (sold to ING Bank in 2007) and the Oypa supermarket chain (now owned by Koç Holding A.Ş.).
