The Gonfalon

From the site of Ukrainian Heraldry:
"Gonfalon is a rectangular panel which consists seven equal horizontal strips - four red and three dark blue. In the centre is yellow Rus' soldier in a chain armour with a spear. "The shield per pale by gules and azure. In the first part is Rus' soldier in a chain armour with a spear. In the second part is or mice in a pale. The emblem adorned by or decorative cartouche and crowned by an or rural crown. The image of the soldier is a mention of the desperate resistance to a mongolo-tatar horde rendered by local residents, meeting heroic death. Gules color symbolizes courage and fearlessness. Or mice reminds the times of emancipating wars when a small cossack fortress was here, and also about times of hetman I.Mazepa when the village prospered. The Village

"It is located on ancient Dukiv road from Chernihiv to Kyiv. According to a legend, inhabitants of village at 1240 showed resistance to Mongols and were destroyed. Polish documents from 1628 named the Bohins'kyi, founder of village. There were regular fairs, the village receives the status of a small town. In 1919 were fights among Red Army and Ukrainian troops for it."
