Description of the flag

Kings Dominion is an amusement park in Doswell, Virginia, just north of Richmond on Interstate 95. The park has been through a number of incarnations and owners over the decades, but is currently owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company of Sandusky, Ohio. Cedar Fair owns and operates 11 amusement parks and a number of other indoor and outdoor entertainment venues across the US and into Canada.

The name of the Kings Dominion amusement park is a combination of part of the name of its sister park, Kings Island in Ohio, and Virginia's nickname as the "Old Dominion." Kings Dominion first opened in May 1975, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. As part of the celebration, the park has introduced a new 40th Anniversary flag to its array of flagpoles at the main entrance. There are four flagpoles that adorn the main entrance to the park, flying (from the viewer's left to right) the American flag, the Virginia flag, the flag of Henrico County (where Doswell is located), and the Kings Dominion flag.

The Kings Dominion corporate flag that usually graces the flagpole at the park entrance features the park's logo on a white field. The logo itself consists of the park's name in gold letters, with dark blue waving triangular banners replacing the dots atop the lowercase "i"s in the name. Toward the hoist is the Cedar Fair corporate symbol - a tall, dark blue rectangle with a white wavy line symbolizing a roller coaster. Below the name of the park are the small, dark blue words "Cedar Fair Entertainment Company."

The Kings Dominion 40th Anniversary flag features the celebratory park logo centered on a white field. The celebratory logo is rather complicated. It includes the original park logo from 1975, with the stylized name of the park showing a crown in place of the dot of the lowercase "i" in "Kings." Behind the 1975 logo toward the fly is a pale blue outline of the Eiffel Tower. One of the park's primary attractions since opening in 1975 is a one-third scale replica of the real Eiffel Tower in Paris. Toward the hoist and behind the 1975 logo is the number "40" in gold numerals, with the word "CELEBRATION" in gold letters beneath the 1975 logo. Gold stars and sparkles form an aura around the celebratory logo, which is outlined in pale blue. I said it was complicated.
