Description of the flag

The county has adopted its first new flag in 40 years.
Source: https://main.sbcounty.gov/2024/12/05/board-adopts-new-county-flag/

For the first time in 40 years a new flag will fly in front of San Bernardino County government buildings.

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Dec. 3, adopted a new county flag, the third in the county’s 171-year history and the first since the current flag was adopted in 1984.

The new flag was designed by the County Administrative Office Design Team with input from county leadership. The banner incorporates five stars representing the county’s five supervisorial districts, the county’s arrowhead logo, the 1853 date of the county’s establishment, a silhouette of mountains representing the county’s mountain communities, and gold and blue stripes representing the county’s desert and valley communities.

“I’m proud of our new county flag and I look forward to seeing it fly at county offices and proudly displayed in our meeting rooms,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe. “The stars and stripes celebrate the unique diversity of our geography and communities and the colors are bold and distinct in a way befitting the nation’s largest county.”

Second flag

The three flags of San Bernardino County, city of Ontario and Ontario International Airport are pictured here:
https://www.facebook.com/flyONT. Some observations are:
1) The badge in the San Bernardino County has smaller lettering and is in gold: https://www.facebook.com/flyONT
2) The seal on the Ontario flag is significantly larger.

This version uses black text for the county name.

Photos of the flag can be seen here and here. The county flag is 1:2:1 horizontal blue-white-blue with the county seal on the hoist side of the white stripe followed by lettering (guess..."San Bernardino County").  The flag looks like 1:2.

A better photo of the San Bernardino county flag can be found at www.flickr.com/photos/dimachron/2965019163. On this photo two shades of blue stripes are visible, and the inscription on flag is "County of San Bernardino", not "SAN BERNARDINO". based on photo and photo

It appears the San Bernardino County flag uses golden details in the center of the flag most commonly as of now, as seen at https://www.sbsun.com/2023/04/10/is-san-bernardino-county-getting-its-fair-share-of-state-funding-supervisors-ready-to-find-out/ and https://www.sbsun.com/2021/10/04/san-bernardino-county-judge-overturns-voter-approved-measure-slashing-supervisors-pay/.

There also exist other variants on Worthpoint, one using golden numbers reading "1853" as seen at https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/county-san-bernardino-california-flag-1886702436. An odd variant with a blue middle stripe is seen here.

The central field is described as white, but the comparison with the flags of the USA and California [1] reveals that the color is actually a very light shade of blue and the charges upon it are in old gold, much like the color used in the recently adopted flag [see message #36212]; the charges are a scalloped arrowhead (the silhouette of the county emblem) between the inscriptions "1853" at the left -hand side and "County of San Bernardino" at the right-hand side and numerous rays above and beneath it.

The variant with darker shade of blue and brighter shade of gold is also presented. This variant was also much used, including the official occasions, for example by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department [2, 3] and the San Bernardino County District Attorney [4]. The shades of all colors seem to vary somewhat, although never as much as for blue to be mistaken for white or for gold to "lose" its brightness.

I think that there is more than one version. In these photos, it is definitely white:

First flag

Flag was posted on eBay - a grey field with a blue silhouette of two mountains, and a blue scalloped arrowhead in the upper fly, with the date 1853 in white below it.

The board adopted the first county flag on April 23, 1973. Like the new flag, it included a scalloped arrowhead logo, the 1853 date and a silhouette of mountains.

Sheriff's office

Several photographs of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office flag are on the Internet:

The flag features the sheriff's office seven-pointed star badge centered on a white field. The field itself is enclosed within a double border of black and gold. The badge, meanwhile, surmounts a black and gold striped ribbon folded behind the star.
