Description of the Flag

A white field, with a large green seal bearing a map of Florida, the location of the county is shown by an image of the capitol, and the words "FLORIDA'S CAPITAL COUNTY" around the seal.

Leon County's name reflects the original Spanish history of Florida. The history of this state, and particularly the Gulf coast and the so-called 'Florida Panhandle' is one of the most convoluted and therefore the most interesting of any of the American states.
Ron Lahav, 27 October 2005

The county is named for Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon.
Ned Smith, 28 October 2005
