Description of the flag

The township administration sent me a photo of the township flag. The flag is a vertical tribar of red-black-red. Inside each bar is the shape of a certain structure which pertains to the roots of the township. The first shows a small house, which represents home and family. The second shows a church steeple representing religion. The third shows a barn, which reflects the township's historic agriculture industry. At the top and bottom of the flag is the township's name.

The seal

[Municipal seal] image located by David Sigley, 14 January 2025

The seal depicts the Canfield Township hall. above the township hall is a script which reads "Fundus, Familia, Ecclesia" which means Farm, Family, Church in latin, a phrase that is embodied on the flag as well through depictions of these structures. Under the township hall is the American and Ohio flags. Under the flags is another banner which says "Township 1 Range 3," which is meant to represent the plots of land that would become townships as designated by the Public Land Survey System in the early years of American expansion.
