Description of the flag

The city of Ontario (5,303 inhabitants in 2002; 28,300 ha) is located in Richland County, north-central Ohio. In the "News Journal", 16 May 2008, Lou Whitmire reports the adoption of the flag of Ontario as follows:
"Council members voted Thursday to accept the official design of a new Ontario city flag, honoring a community established in 1834. Important years are marked by three white stars, recognizing 1834; 1958 (the year of incorporation into a village); and 2001 (when Ontario became a city). The flag has a gold city seal centered on a dark blue background. Mayor Ken Bender presented the Ontario flag design to council. Police officer Adam Gongwer, a graphic designer, assisted with the design.

On 21 August, the same Lou Whitmire reports in the very same "News Journal" the inauguration of the new city flag during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the city incorporation, with a colour photograph of the hoisting of the flag at the city hall's clock tower. Additional historical data on the city are given:
"It was incorporated as a village Aug. 21, 1958, by Ohio Secretary of State Ted Brown.
Mayor Ken Bender said in 1958 the village incorporated 8.9 square miles with a population of about 2,300.
