The flag of Tyrone, Pennsylvania was created by councilman Robert Wilson in late 1959.

On the lighter side, Councilman Robert Wilson, seventh ward, who is also business manager for the Gardner Guards drum and bugle corps, showed fellow-councilmen a design for a borough flag for which he asked approval for adoption. he explained that the Guards are planning an 8-flag color guyard next season and the only missing flag is a borough flag. "So, the Guards got busy and with some help, designed one," he said. Council relished the opportunity to approve the flag's design unanimously.
