Essex County is located in the Middle Peninsula of Virginia and is part of the Northern Neck on the Rappahannock River. The county seat is the town of Tappahannock.
The flag of Essex County features the county seal centered on a white field. The seal shows a ship sailing up the Rappahannock River with a
Native American and a colonial meeting face-to-face in the foreground. Arched above the scene are the words "ESSEX COUNTY" in black capital
letters and the word "VIRGINIA" arched below. The entire seal is enclosed within a blue ring.
