On the school bookstore website, I found a yellow-bordered flag, purple, bearing the name 'UNIVERSITY OF' (interrupt for picture of fly-looking lion in yellow filigrane and italic name 'UNA LIONS') 'NORTH ALABAMA'. Surely this is the athletic or sports flag. In any case the lion looms large on the University’s website www.una.edu.
The colors purple and yellow are officially specified, along with grey. Also specified is the Primary, Secondary, Floating, and Anchored Logos as well. Banners and Signage concern textile in the large sense rather than flags.
On Wikipedia is an image of the university logo and the motto; "Veritas Lux. Orbis Terrarum" (Latin: "Truth and Light of the World").
Founded in 1830 as Lagrange College at Leighton, the school became the Florence Wesleyan University (relocated at Florence) in 1854, a normal or teachers' school in 1872 and Florence State University in 1968 to be finally renamed University of North Alabama (UNA) in 1974.
On the subject of the school colors' origin, the page says "All that is certain is that the 1912 yearbook, published the same year as inauguration of the football team, was named the 'Purple and Gold'."
