Presentation

The electoral coalition called Encuentro Progresista was founded in 1994 by the Frente Amplio and other minor left parties, e.g. the Christian Democratic Party, and still exists currently.
Rodolfo Tizzi, 10 Jul 2002

Encuentro Progresista is a center-left alliance, led by Tabaré Vázquez, which has just won the first round of the presidential elections in Uruguay (second round scheduled on 28 November). The alliance groups the socialists, the communists, former Tupamaro guerilleros and former deceived members of the two main dominant parties of center-right, Colorado and Blanco. Courrier International 472 (18 November 1999) shows a colour picture of a street demonstration in Montevideo celebrating the victory on 31 October. Most flags are horizontal red-blue-white FAAU tricolors, in proportion 1:2.
Ivan Sache, 21 Nov 1999

The correct name for the political group was Encuentro Progresista-Frente Amplio, then in 2003 (circa) it became Encuentro Progresista-Frente Amplio-Nueva Mayoria; and after winning the 2004 national elections, all non-Frente Amplio sectors where incorporated into the Frente Amplio, officially disolving the Encuentro Progresista as such.

Flag

The flag of the Encuentro Progresista (Progressist Encounter) is a blue flag with a logo in the center. The logo is a yellow circle with four lines (light blue, red, violet and orange) that come together to the center of the circle. From a design point of view, the circle stand for the coalition, and the lines of different colors to different political parties uniting themselves to form that coalition. All the lines appear in a kind of "rustic" way or simulate to be a sketch. There are variants of this logo. Some of them appear more "geometric". Some variants with the written name of the coalition "ENCUENTRO PROGRESISTA" also exist.
