Presentation

Federación ANCAP (ANCAP Federation) is the labor union for people who work at the ANCAP or Administracion Nacional de Combustibles Alcohol y Portland (National Administration of Fuels, Alcohol, and Portland Cement). The ANCAP is a State's run company that is responsible for several oil refineries, and chemical activities in Uruguay. The company also runs several gas stations in Uruguay.

The trade union FANCAP and its flag appeared a lot during the 2003 ANCAP referendum. As the government of Jorge Batlle tried to privatize the company, the union with the help of the Frente Amplio collected signs to make a referendum about this privatization. Under the Uruguayan Law it is possible to make referendums after collecting signs. So general people can vote to accept or reject laws, in a direct Democracy system.

Flag

The flag of the FANCAP is a vertical tricolor of red, white and blue with the logo of the union in the central white stripe. The colors are the classic Artiguist colors used in Uruguay. In the middle it has the logo of the trade union, formed by stylized mesh and cog-wheel with stylized letters: A letter "F" for Federación, and an "A" for ANCAP.

Variants of the flag

There are several variants of the flag of this labor union. The exact ratio and proportions of the flag logo appears to change in different flags. Some flags do have acronyms added too.

This variant of the flag is almost the same design. However the logo in the central white stripe is slightly different from the previous one. The other difference is the ratio of the flag, that in this case is 1:2.

This second variant has a different "border" between the central stripe and the other stripe. Instead of the common straight line, it has a "cogwheel-like" or "mesh-like" border. This flag is made as a one piece printed flag.
