The flag of the Chief of the LAPD is a little more complicated, and can be seen in a photograph at lapdblog.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341c5fcf53ef01348518e6d1970c-pi. The flag is divided vertically, the 1/4 closest to the hoist white and the rest dark blue, with a gold fimbriation between them. In the white portion are the dark blue capital letters "LAPD." In the dark blue portion is centered a white line drawing of the Chief of Police badge, featuring the word "CHIEF" at the top and the four rank stars at the bottom of the badge. Above the badge in white capital letters are the
words "CITY OF LOS ANGELES," while below the badge in similar letters are the words "CHIEF OF POLICE."

This is an LAPD Academy recruit class flag. Although I haven't seen that particular one in my several visits to the academy, the design is consistent with the ones I have seen.
