The flag of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile consists of three stripes, the middle one being the blue color of the sky, and the upper and lower ones white (Therefore they are called Cruzados). In the center is the official emblem. (Web image)

The first coat of arms of the university was created in 1920. The crown of the Sacred Heart was added in 1930 after the university had been canonically erected by the Holy See. The word "PONTIFICIA" has been progressively incorporated into the emblem since the 1970s.

Universidad Católica (UC) was established in Santiago by a Decree signed on in 21 June 1888 by Mariano Casanova, Bishop of Santiago, with Joaquín Larraín Gandarillas as its first Rector. Classes started in 1889 in Círculo Católico, involving 10 professors and 50 students.
UC was canonically erected on 2 February 1930 by the Holy See.
UC is composed of 18 Faculties, 1 secondary Campus located in Villarrica (Region Araucania) and 1 College.
