The municipality of Villaherreros (232 inhabitants in 2010; 4,079 ha; unofficial website) is located 50 km from Palencia.
Villaherreros must have already existed in the 9th century, when
Infante García was commissioned by King Alfonso III to resettle the
right bank of river Duero; the early resettlers must have been smiths
(herreros). The village was listed in 1351 in the Becerro de Las
Behetrías de Castilla as Ferreros Villa.
Vilaherreros is the birth place of the marathon runner Ana Isabel
Alonso (b. 1963).

The flag and arms of Villaherreros are prescribed by a Decree adopted
on 22 January 1996 by the Palencia Provincial Government, signed on 6
February 1996 by the President of the Government, and published on 19
February 1996 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 35 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Quadrangular flag with proportions 1:1, made of three horizontal stripes - blue, white and yellow -, the central stripe twice higher than the other ones. In the middle is placed the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Shield of Spanish shape. [Per fess,] 1. Argent an anvil sable surrounded by tongs and a hammer of the same, 2. Azure [two] keys argent [per saltire]. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown closed.
The Royal Academy of History validated the proposed symbols on 30 June 1989 (Boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia, 1990, 187, 1: 162).
