Nantes Métropole (638,931 inhabitants in 2016; 52,336 ha) was created in January 2015, replacing the previous Communauté urbaine Nantes Métropole.
The Syndicat intercommunal à vocations multiples de l'agglomération
nantaise (SIMAN), created in 1982, became a district (a former
type of intermunicipal structure) in 1992, as District de l'agglomération
nantaise). The Communauté urbaine de Nantes was founded in 2001; it was
renamed to Nantes Métropole as soon as 2004 but kept the status of Communauté urbaine until 2015.
Nantes Métropole is composed of 24 municipalities: Nantes, Basse-Goulaine, Bouaye, Bouguenais, Brains, Carquefou, La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, Couëron, Indre, Mauves-sur-Loire, La Montagne, Orvault, Le Pellerin, Rezé, Saint-Aignan-Grandlieu, Saint-Herblain, Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau, Saint-Léger-les-Vignes, Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire, Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire, Sautron, Les Sorinières, Thouaré-sur-Loire, and Vertou.

Pornic Agglo Pays de Retz (62,330 inhabitants in 2017; 52,214 ha; 15 municipalities) was created in January 2017 as the merger of the former Communauté de communes de Pornic (created in 2002, composed of Pornic, Chaumes-en-Retz, La Bernerie-en-Retz, Chauvé, Les Moutiers-en-Retz, La Plaine-sur-Mer, Préfailles, and Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef) and Communauté de communes Cœur Pays de Retz (created in 1995; composed of Sainte-Pazanne, Cheix-en-Retz, Port-Saint-Père, Rouans, Saint-Hilaire-de-Chaléons, and Vue)).

Cap Atlantique

The Communauté d'agglomération de la presqu'île de Guérande - Atlantique (Cap Atlantique; 72,917 inhabitants in 2014, 38,612 ha) is made of 12 municipalities located in Loire-Atlantique (Assérac, Batz-sur-Mer, Guérande, Herbignac, La Baule-Escoublac (seat), La Turballe, Le Croisic, Le Pouliguen, Mesquer, Piriac-sur-Mer, Saint-Lyphard, Saint-Molf) and another three located in Morbihan (Camoêl, Férel, Pénestin).
The flag of Cap Atlantique (video) is vertically divided blue-white (~3:5),
with the circular logo in the middle.
The logo represents a geographical map of the Guérande Peninsula
(presqu'île), limited west by the Atlantic Ocean, north by river
Vilaine, and south by the wide estuary of river Loire.
The motto "L'Énergie pour bâtir ensemble" reads "Energy to build
together".

The Communauté de communes du Pays d'Ancenis (COMPA) (66,984 inhabitants in 2017; 86,332 ha) is composed of 19 municipalities in Loire-Atlantique (Ancenis-Saint-Géréon - created in 2019 as the merger of Ancenis and Saint-Géréon -, Le Cellier, Couffé, Joué-sur-Erdre, Ligné, Loireauxence - created in 2016 as the merger of Belligné, La Chapelle-Saint-Sauveur, La Rouxière and Varades -, Mésanger, Montrelais, Mouzeil, Oudon, Pannecé, Le Pin, Pouillé-les-Côteaux, Riaillé, La Roche-Blanche, Teillé, Trans-sur-Erdre, Vair-sur-Loire, Vallons-de-l'Erdre - created in 2018 as the merger of Bonnœuvre, Maumusson, Saint-Mars-la-Jaille, Saint-Sulpice-des-Landes, Vritz, in Loire-Atlantique, and Freigné in Maine-et-Loire -, and another one in Maine-et-Loire (Ingrandes-Le Fresne sur Loire, established on 1 January 2016 as the merger of Ingrandes in Maine-et-Loire and Le Fresne-sur-Loire in Loire-Atlantique).
The flag of COMPA is white with the authority's logo, which was changed in 2011 (photo). The former flag (photo) was white with the former logo.
