Translated from municipal web site:
"Rectangular with two equal, parallel stripes, our flag ismade of two colours:
- Top: Yellow, representing one of our greatest resrouce, gold, source of income and sustainability for a great proportion of our families;
- Bottom: Green, representing our profuse, dense and unstained forest, hosting a greatvariety of plants and animals, species unique in the world that make of Chocó the natural lung of the world.
The colours and their meaning deserve a mention in our municipal anthem."
The "Economics" section of the municipal website points out that anarchic mining and excessive timber exploitation have very negative side effects on the local biodiversity.
The anthem was composed by Esther Zulema Murillo Copete.
The chorus includes "Amarillo y Verde es tu bandera libertad!" and the last stanza alludes to the natural resources represented on the flag:
"Tadó tus gracias a Dios celestial
tienes oro y platino nuestro mineral
maderas frutos flores selvas gran belleza
son los productos de nuestra naturaleza"
(Tadó thanks to God in the skies
has gold and platinum, our ore
Timber fruit flowers and forests of great beauty
are the products of our natural environment.)
