The coat of arms of Mocorito was designed by Miguel Ángel Velázquez Tracy and adopted on 20 August 1964 through Municipal Decree N°3 in preparation for the festivities of the 370th anniversary of the foundation of Mocorito. Published in the State Newspaper on 15 September the same year.
The border at the top reads "VILLA D MOCORITO", and imitates metal in honor of its Indian origin. The inner area is divided diagonally by a white band with footprints signifying the pilgrimages the Indians took which populated the area in the first place. The upper-left section depicts a skull with the banner of the kings of Aragon on his lance, remembering the origin of its name which means "place of dead people", referring to the killings by the conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado.
The upper-right section depicts in yellow at the top a defensive building of the city of San Miguel de Culiacán. At the top, the confluence of the Humaya and Tamazula rivers is found, and the Sinaloa or Petatlán River is found below; in the middle the Évora or Mocorito River with a bridge over it that signifies the trail from Culiacán. At the bottom, a fortification is found at the bottom. To its right, the Northern Star remembers the search by the conquistadors for greater wealth, with an arrow pointing towards it; this section remembers that they came through here from Culiacán and established a church here.
In the lower-left section, the local Immaculate Conception church is seen with a view of the mountains. It is imposed on gold and a drop of it is visible to remember that the conquistadors searched for it. The lower-right section depicts a Christian cross and the year 1594, when a mission was founded here. From behind, an eagle, remembering the Nationality. At the bottom is an open book with the years 1857 and 1917, referring to the Constitutions expedited those years. The eagle's claws are on a platform reading "ESTADO D SINALOA". Two hands hold the shield in place, with a fire emerging, also for patriotism.
