The coat of arms was adopted under Council Act Nº8 on 9 December 1980, being designed by Darío Armienta Canizales. The shield is divided into four quadrants. The upper-left depicts an Indian hunting; to the right, an Indian tending to his corn plant. To the lower-left, an image of the San Ignacio de Loyola church which gave the municipality its name. To the lower-right, two mining tools. Below the shield is a ribbon that reads SAN IGNACIO. Above, two pelicans open up a view to the mountains with the sun behind, overlooking the fields.
